Basic terms
Origin: proximal attachment of muscle, fleshy and directly attached to bone most often
Insertion: distal attachment of muscle where muscle tapers to tendon which attaches to bone
Reflection of skin: separating the skin from the subcutaneous tissue
Reflection of fascia: subcutaneous tissue between skin and a structure like muscle or organs
Remember your planes (anatomical positions)
Actions
Protraction/retraction - eg. moving scapula forward and back
Flexion and extension - eg. bending and extending the elbow joint
Adduction/Abduction - eg. glenohumeral joint
Inversion/eversion - in lower limbs specifically
Pronation/supination - upper limbs only
Plantarflexion/dorsiflexion - lower limbs only
